Environmental responsibility is at our core

Eunota’s owner, Christine McLauchlan, holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and wanted to ensure that her Moncton-based court reporting business was as environmentally responsible as possible. This field of work often includes lots of paper, travelling, and electronic equipment which is hard on our environment. By purchasing Gold Standard-Certified International Offsets offered through Less Emissions (a Bullfrog Power company), Eunota is able to not only be carbon neutral, but also be carbon negative by offsetting more carbon than the company consumes. The carbon offsets purchased are endorsed by the World Wildlife Fund. 

What are carbon offsets?

If you’ve thought about making your home or business in Moncton (or abroad) more environmentally responsible, carbon offsets are a great way to do just that. Carbon offsets are simply funds generated to help pay for projects that improve the quality of our environment. This could include tree planting, water quality improvement, habitat restoration, and more. By funding these projects, Eunota shows its commitment to making the world a better place.

How can I make my home or business carbon neutral?

 I’m so glad you asked! Environmental responsibility starts at home and can include reducing overall consumption, reusing products (and buying used), and recycling wherever possible. It can also look like volunteering at a community clean up, using a reusable mug for your coffee, refusing single-use plastics, picking up trash on your daily walk, or spending time in nature to make sure you always have that appreciation in your heart. If you’re looking for certified carbon offsets and want a certificate to prove they were bought, it is helpful to look into certified carbon offsets. Less Emissions is a great and easy-to-use resource for purchasing carbon offsets – you simply decide how many tonnes to offset, choose gold ($$) or standard ($) offsets, then buy them using a credit card or Paypal! It takes no time at all and you will feel great about being an environmental steward on behalf of your business.

Supporting environmental projects in New Brunswick

 There are many groups doing fantastic work in New Brunswick that are worth supporting. These are great options if you don’t need a certificate of offsetting for a business or event. Some phenomenal groups include Community Forests International (Sackville), the Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance (Moncton), and the Fundy Biosphere Reserve. Although they do not offer certified carbon offsets, you can donate money in a similar amount for what you would for a certified offset (in the $20.00/tonne range). This is a great option if you are looking to offset your home’s carbon usage by supporting projects that are in your community!
